Open Badges

Don Presant, Learning Agents

Workshop participants will learn about an exciting new type of portable credential: Open Badges.

These have been adopted by employers, educational institutions, and professional/vocational organizations around the world.

They provide a new way to recognize achievement, especially learning that takes place outside of a classroom.

Governing bodies for open badge credentials include: CanCred Factory - a distinctly Canadian service for managing Open Badges; and CanCred Passport - a free service where users can set up mini-portfolios to store, share and display their badges.

Don’s expertise combines educational broadcasting with computer, Internet and e-learning technologies. He has developed several successful tools and methods for knowledge transfer and skills demonstration.

Don currently serves on the Open Badges Working Groups for Workforce and Higher Education. He is a community advisor for Open Badge Factory, an international service.
