Established in 1975 in Terrace, Northwest Community College (NWCC) has expanded to nine regional campuses serving over 7,000 students from 34 communities in the beautiful northwest region of the province. Encompassing 102,247 square kilometres, the region is home to 72,148 people – of whom more than 30% are Aboriginal. NWCC offers college access programs; health and human services programs; online programs; university credit programs, trades foundation and apprenticeship programs; as well as courses through the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art, the School of Exploration & Mining and the School of Northwest Culinary Arts. NWCC’s innovative programs and courses respond to the changing needs of learners, delivering the skills necessary for sustainable careers. It also works closely with business – developing courses for delivery in the community, on the job site, or in the classroom. Its contribution to the region’s economy is estimated to be $15.5M – due mostly to NECC operations and capital spending.
